The HDJ-2000s don't live up to the hype., March 23, 2010
I
really wanted to like the HDJ-2000 headphones. When the package arrived
at work today, I was thrilled, and couldn't wait to take them home.
Once I did get them home, I found myself frowning for than smiling. My
nearly 15 year old Denon AHD-950s have begun to have issues with the
cord, and thus I intended to replace them with the HDJ-2000s.
My
old Denon set sounds so much better than these. Where my Denons come
through with good, clean bass response, these Pioneers do too. But,
where the high end and balance in general is concerned, my old Denons
signigantly out perform the HDJ-2000 set. As another poster stated, they
are flat and dull. You may not notice this is you had not used a better
set, but I assure you, there are better headphones out there.
Please
note that I made my comparisons using the same audio tracks in seamless
loops, using the same amp, at the same volume and this pair, compared
to my old set, almost sounds mono, as if all the frequencies are
bleeding into eachother. It's just a muddy mess.
I will be
exchanging these for another pair, most likely Denons. Make no mistake,
this is a good headphone, but not great. They're over rated, over
priced, and under performing in my experience.

Brilliant Headphones, August 16, 2009
As
an owner of a pair of HDJ-1000's and a happy owner at that, I was
excited to purchase this upgrade. First off, sound: the detail in all
brands of music- electronic especially- is apparent from the start.
There is clarity not present in the HDJ-1000's and that is partly due to
the 2nd aspect of the headphones: their fit. These headphones enclose
your ears, as opposed to pressing right up against them as the
HDJ-1000's do. The design of the HDJ-1000's is solid; however, for long
spans of listening or monitoring audio/DJ'ing, they do get
uncomfortable. This new pair are a vast improvement because the earpiece
surrounds your ear and use memory foam and a "protein leather" to add a
bit of plush to the whole affair. As a result new design is easy to
wear for hours on end.
So, these are great headphones, but the
price point is rather high... and that is because of the build quality.
These headphones are constructed almost entirely of metal, a magnesium
composite as said by documentation. The build quality is unheard of in
the industry, these are not delicate studio or DJ headphones, these are
the highest build standard I have ever seen in a pair of headphones
period. They can travel with you, get dropped by you, tour with you and
they will hold up to it.
These are the best headphones on the
market for their reproduction of audio and the audio components are
enclosed in a construction that will ensure these headphones will be
with you for years.
Please enjoy.
